LA Clippers Center Ivica Zubac Signs Lucrative Contract Extension

LA Clippers‘ center Ivica Zubac has recently inked a three-year, $58.6 million contract extension with the team. This deal secures his spot with the franchise for a total of $70 million, keeping him in Clippers‘ jersey until the 2027-2028 season. The agreement was confirmed by his agents Mike Lindeman and Jeff Schwartz of Excel, announcing that Zubac will be signing the maximum deal available to him under the terms of the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement.

Throughout his career, Zubac has shown significant growth on the court, averaging a career-high 11.7 points and 9.2 rebounds for the Clippers during their 51-victory season. In the Western Conference playoff series against the Dallas Mavericks, he stepped up his game even further, with an impressive 16.2 points per game. Notably, Zubac’s shooting percentage of 65% from the field during the regular season ranked him third in the league, showcasing his efficiency and accuracy as a center.

Defensive Prowess

One of Zubac’s standout attributes is his defensive prowess. Last season, he held his opponents to 49.6% shooting at the rim, making him the best defender in the league among players who defended 200 or more shots, as reported by Second Spectrum. This ability to protect the paint and challenge shots effectively has been a crucial asset for the Clippers, solidifying Zubac’s role as the team’s starting center for the upcoming season.

Continued Loyalty to the Clippers

Having started his NBA journey with the Clippers back in 2018 after being traded from the Lakers, Zubac has now entered into his seventh season with the team. Despite the departure of All-NBA forward Paul George to the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency, the Clippers have made significant moves to strengthen their roster. By retaining free agent guard James Harden, signing players like Nicolas Batum and Derrick Jones, and now extending Zubac’s contract, the team is demonstrating their commitment to building a competitive lineup for the upcoming season.

In his eight NBA seasons thus far, Zubac has maintained solid averages of 9.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. With his recent contract extension, he has the opportunity to further elevate his game and make a lasting impact as a key player for the LA Clippers.
