Warner Bros. Discovery secures rights to air French Open on TNT Sports

The French Tennis Federation and Warner Bros. Discovery have officially announced that the French Open will now be airing on TNT Sports in the United States, starting next year. This move comes after a 10-year agreement was reached, averaging $65 million per year. This marks a significant increase from the $12 million a year the Federation had previously received from NBC and Tennis Channel for the U.S. rights.

TNT Sports will take the lead as the network for coverage of the French Open, with additional matches being broadcast on TBS and truTV. Additionally, every match from the tournament will be available for streaming on Max. This shift brings the French Open to the same level of coverage as the other three Grand Slam tournaments, which are currently carried by ESPN.

The French Tennis Federation president, Gilles Moretton, expressed excitement about the new agreement, stating that it will enable the federation to maximize exposure for Roland Garros in the USA and further promote the tournament. With this deal, Warner Bros. Discovery is expanding its presence in the world of tennis, having previously aired the French Open on Eurosport since 1989.

While TNT will be showcasing the French Open, the network also has plans to air two College Football Playoff games on Dec. 21 and four NASCAR races next year. However, the future of TNT carrying the NBA remains uncertain as discussions continue with the league on a new rights agreement, potentially starting in the 2025-26 season.

The partnership between Warner Bros. Discovery and the French Tennis Federation represents a significant shift in the broadcasting landscape for the French Open in the United States. With TNT Sports taking the lead in coverage, fans can expect a fresh perspective on the tournament and enhanced viewing options across various platforms. This new era of coverage signals a bright future for the French Open and its growing popularity among American audiences.
